Skin peels, also known as chemical peels, are used as a method of intense exfoliation to resurface and rejuvenate tired, dull and lifeless skin. There are a variety of acids or enzymes in peels that target different depths in the skin, thus improving different skin concerns. Peels are great for dull skin, lines and wrinkles, acne, scarring and pigmentation.
Peels have gained a strong following over the last 30 years. Chemical peeling dates as far back as Cleopatra. She is said to have bathed in sour milk to help keep her skin soft, supple and radiant. Sour milk contains lactic acid, a gentle AHA acid commonly found in chemical peels today. Typically referred to as a ‘resurfacing treatment’, peels are designed to speed up the renewal of cells in the lower layers so that they will arrive to the surface younger-looking and healthier.
The Consultation
A consultation is important to primarily discuss your needs and expectations. Our aesthetic practitioner will assess your medical history and suitability for the treatment.
Skin Analysis
Our practitioner will perform a thorough skin analysis so they are able to confidently advise you on the best programme for your skin health. It’s the largest organ of your body after all! We will also take photographs of your skin to refer back to throughout the course.
Treatment
We require for your skin to be prepped with skin care at home prior to your peels to enhance the treatment results. The treatment starts off with a thorough cleanse with our cosmeceutical skincare range, IMAGE Skincare. Once prepped, a layer of peel is applied over the skin and left on for a set time. It is normal to experience a hot, itchy sensation on the skin but that will soon pass. The peel is neutralised until no sensation is left on the skin. Aftercare products are applied to the skin to help the regeneration process. It is highly recommended that this is followed by LED light treatment to help heal the skin for quicker results.
Results In Progress
Skin regeneration takes time. We will ensure you’re using a stable form of Vitamin C and Vitamin A whilst undergoing clinic treatments to ensure the skin is in the best possible condition to receive and accelerate the treatment. When the skin is fully primed with Vitamin C & A, the results of the treatment are maximised and the healing process is rapid. With deeper peels, as the skin regenerates you may notice the skin peeling/shedding. This will most likely start on day 2 post treatment and will last 2-3 days depending on your skin.
