In short

What is PRF, and how is it different from PRP?

PRF, or platelet rich fibrin, is a newer generation of platelet based regenerative treatment, also prepared from your own blood. Unlike PRP it is prepared without anticoagulants and forms a natural fibrin matrix, which holds platelets and other naturally occurring components involved in tissue repair and cellular signalling.

PRF is introduced into targeted areas of the scalp to support viable follicles. Whether PRP or PRF belongs in your programme is decided by your hair and scalp assessment.

What PRF is

PRF, or platelet rich fibrin, is a newer generation of platelet based regenerative treatment, also prepared from your own blood.

Unlike PRP, PRF is prepared without anticoagulants and forms a natural fibrin matrix, which holds platelets and other naturally occurring components involved in tissue repair and cellular signalling. PRF is introduced into targeted areas of the scalp to support the environment surrounding viable hair follicles.

Where it sits

We do not view any individual treatment as the answer to hair loss on its own. Red light therapy, PRP, PRF and exosomes all sit within our wider foundation first approach to hair restoration.

What that means in practice is that the first question is never which of these you would like. It is what is happening to your hair, and what should be addressed before anything is added on top of it.

Where there is not enough viable hair to work with, Tarek will say so rather than start a programme.

Suitability

Honest about who
it is for.

It may suit you if

  • Assessment shows follicles in the area that are still viable
  • You would prefer a preparation made without anticoagulants
  • You want the environment around the existing hair supported
  • You are willing to begin with the foundation phase

It is not the answer if

  • Your hair and scalp have not been assessed yet
  • You are looking for one treatment that answers every type of hair loss
  • The follicles in the area have been permanently lost
  • You want it as a one off purchase rather than part of a programme

The evidence

What a foundation first
programme actually
looks like.

Microscopic images are taken on the first visit. Progress is then formally reviewed every 2 months, so what changed is compared against a record rather than against recollection. Drag any slider to compare.

Photographs are of our own patients and published with their consent. Hair restoration is gradual and results vary between individuals. Nothing here is a guarantee of outcome, and suitability is established at consultation first.

How it actually runs

Nothing starts
before the assessment.

01

Consultation

Complimentary, unhurried, and typically 45 to 60 minutes. We take the time to understand your concerns and your goals before anything is recommended.

02

Assessment

Your hair and scalp are examined under the microscope, on a screen you can see for yourself, and a baseline record is taken on day one.

03

Foundation

For most patients the work begins with the environment the hair grows in, not with a therapy layered on top of an untreated scalp.

04

Review

Progress is formally reviewed every 2 months against those baseline images. If your hair is not responding, we would rather know at two months than at twelve.

We are not a clinic that sells head injections. We are a clinic that assesses your hair first and then decides what, if anything, is worth doing.

I have been visiting the Hampton Clinic for ten years and there is absolutely nowhere else I would go for my treatments. Customers are always welcomed by a warm, polite and efficient team who are experts in their field. Treatments are carried out in an extremely respectful and personal manner.

I have been coming here for a very long time for laser hair growth treatment. I originally knew Tarek from a previous clinic, and I have continued to trust him. It never feels rushed or clinical in a cold way. There is always good conversation, genuine care, and a real personal touch, which makes a big difference.

I am impressed, and learnt a lot at my hair loss consultation today at The Hampton Clinic Bristol. They explained everything, what is the cause of my thinning hair, and advised what I should use and take.

Always welcoming, staff very friendly and positive. I have been on numerous occasions and have always been treated respectfully. They keep you updated about your sessions by email and text, and you always get an aftercare email too.

Questions

Before
you book.

How is PRF different from PRP?

PRF is prepared without anticoagulants and forms a natural fibrin matrix, which holds platelets and other naturally occurring components involved in tissue repair and cellular signalling. PRP is a concentrated plasma preparation. Both are made from your own blood.

Is PRF better than PRP?

Neither is better in the abstract. Which preparation is appropriate, if either is, is determined by individual assessment and suitability rather than by a general preference.

Do you offer PRF on its own?

No. We do not view any individual treatment as the answer to hair loss on its own. PRF sits within our wider foundation first approach alongside red light therapy, PRP and exosomes.

How will I know whether it is working?

Microscopic images are taken at the beginning of every programme to establish a baseline, and progress is formally reviewed every 2 months so change is compared against a record rather than against memory.

Next step

See whether PRF is
appropriate for you
before you buy it.

PRF is not sold here as a standalone treatment, and whether it belongs in your programme is decided by your hair and scalp assessment. The consultation takes 45 to 60 minutes and is complimentary.
