In short

What is red light therapy for hair?

Red light therapy is a non invasive approach to hair restoration that uses specific wavelengths of light delivered directly to the scalp. The light is used to support cellular activity within the hair follicles and encourage healthier hair growth.

Treatment requires no surgery and no downtime, and is used as one part of a wider hair restoration programme where the assessment supports it, rather than sold on its own.

What red light therapy is

Red light therapy is a non invasive approach to hair restoration that uses specific wavelengths of light delivered directly to the scalp. The light is used to support cellular activity within the hair follicles and encourage healthier hair growth.

Treatment requires no surgery and no downtime, and can be incorporated into a wider hair restoration programme where appropriate.

Why consistency is the whole point

Hair grows in cycles. A single session cannot meet a follicle at the right moment in its cycle, which is why occasional sessions rarely produce anything a photograph can show.

Treatment is therefore delivered as part of a structured programme over time rather than as an occasional standalone session, and progress is compared against the baseline images taken on your first visit.

What it cannot do

Red light therapy works with follicles that are still viable, which is why assessment is important. It cannot recreate follicles that have been permanently lost.

Red light therapy forms part of our wider foundation first approach to hair restoration, rather than being viewed as a standalone answer to hair loss.

Whiteladies Road · Consultation, then laser

Inside the clinic

The consultation first,
then the light.

Filmed in the practice: the scalp examined under magnification, then a session on the Invisi low level laser device and the red light panel. The order is the point. Nobody is put under a light before anyone has looked at what is actually happening on their scalp.

Read what is said in the film

Every treatment starts with a detailed consultation,

where we assess your scalp and hair condition to understand exactly what you need.

Once we’ve mapped the right approach, we move to the Invisi hair regrowth machine.

Using advanced low-level laser technology, it stimulates dormant follicles, boosts circulation, and delivers more oxygen and nutrients to the scalp.

This helps strengthen existing hair and support natural, thicker regrowth over time,

and all of it without surgery.

Filmed at the practice. The patient consented to the footage being published. The captions in the film are the clinic’s own and are transcribed in full above.

Suitability

Honest about who
it is for.

It may suit you if

  • You are noticing early or progressive thinning rather than long established loss
  • Density has reduced but hair is still growing in the area
  • You have a receding hairline or thinning through the crown
  • You want an approach that involves no surgery and no downtime
  • You are able to commit to a course over time rather than one session

It is not the answer if

  • The follicles in the area have been permanently lost
  • You are looking for a single appointment with an immediate result
  • Nobody has yet established what is causing your hair loss
  • You want to buy it on its own rather than as part of a programme

The evidence

What a foundation first
programme actually
looks like.

Microscopic images are taken on the first visit. Progress is then formally reviewed every 2 months, so what changed is compared against a record rather than against recollection. Drag any slider to compare.

Photographs are of our own patients and published with their consent. Hair restoration is gradual and results vary between individuals. Nothing here is a guarantee of outcome, and suitability is established at consultation first.

How it actually runs

Nothing starts
before the assessment.

01

Consultation

Complimentary, unhurried, and typically 45 to 60 minutes. We take the time to understand your concerns and your goals before anything is recommended.

02

Assessment

Your hair and scalp are examined under the microscope, on a screen you can see for yourself, and a baseline record is taken on day one.

03

Foundation

For most patients the work begins with the environment the hair grows in, not with a therapy layered on top of an untreated scalp.

04

Review

Progress is formally reviewed every 2 months against those baseline images. If your hair is not responding, we would rather know at two months than at twelve.

We are not a clinic that sells head injections. We are a clinic that assesses your hair first and then decides what, if anything, is worth doing.

I have been visiting the Hampton Clinic for ten years and there is absolutely nowhere else I would go for my treatments. Customers are always welcomed by a warm, polite and efficient team who are experts in their field. Treatments are carried out in an extremely respectful and personal manner.

I have been coming here for a very long time for laser hair growth treatment. I originally knew Tarek from a previous clinic, and I have continued to trust him. It never feels rushed or clinical in a cold way. There is always good conversation, genuine care, and a real personal touch, which makes a big difference.

I am impressed, and learnt a lot at my hair loss consultation today at The Hampton Clinic Bristol. They explained everything, what is the cause of my thinning hair, and advised what I should use and take.

Always welcoming, staff very friendly and positive. I have been on numerous occasions and have always been treated respectfully. They keep you updated about your sessions by email and text, and you always get an aftercare email too.

Questions

Before
you book.

Does red light therapy hurt?

No. Red light therapy is non invasive. It requires no surgery and no downtime, and the light is simply delivered to the scalp.

How many sessions will I need?

That is decided at your hair and scalp assessment rather than in advance, because it depends on the pattern of your hair loss and what your scalp needs first. Because hair grows in cycles, treatment is delivered as a structured programme over time rather than as occasional sessions.

Can red light therapy regrow hair I have already lost?

It works with follicles that are still viable. It cannot recreate follicles that have been permanently lost, which is why assessment under the microscope comes first.

Can I buy red light therapy on its own at the clinic?

No. Red light therapy forms part of our wider foundation first approach to hair restoration rather than being sold as a standalone answer to hair loss.
