In short

What is PRP hair restoration?

PRP, or platelet rich plasma, is a regenerative treatment that uses a concentrated preparation made from your own blood. The blood is processed to separate plasma containing a higher concentration of platelets and naturally occurring growth factors.

Once prepared, PRP is delivered into targeted areas of the scalp to support viable hair follicles and encourage healthier hair growth. It is used inside a programme decided by your assessment, not sold as a standalone product.

What PRP is

PRP, or platelet rich plasma, is a regenerative treatment that uses a concentrated preparation made from your own blood.

The blood is processed to separate plasma containing a higher concentration of platelets and naturally occurring growth factors. Once prepared, PRP is delivered into targeted areas of the scalp to support viable hair follicles and encourage healthier hair growth.

How we use it, and how we do not

Where appropriate, PRP may be incorporated into a wider hair restoration programme to support the environment surrounding existing follicles.

We do not view PRP as a universal standalone solution for every type of hair loss. Its use is determined by individual assessment and suitability. Tarek is a qualified hair specialist, and the clinic does not sell scalp injections as a product.

If PRP is not the right thing for your hair, we will say so. That is the point of assessing first.

Why the foundation comes first

Supporting the environment around a follicle is only worth doing when that environment has been understood. Genetics may play a role in your hair loss, but hormonal change, stress, nutrition, general health, medication, lifestyle and scalp conditions all can too.

Addressing those first is what gives any therapy layered on top a reason to work. It is also why two patients whose thinning looks identical can end up on entirely different programmes.

Inside the clinic

One session,
start to finish.

The draw, the separated plasma standing amber above the red cells, and the placement across the scalp. Twenty seconds, no voiceover, no set. If you want to know what you are agreeing to before you agree to it, this is it.

Filmed at the practice. The patient consented to the footage being published. Nothing here is a stock clip and nobody in it is a model.

Suitability

Honest about who
it is for.

It may suit you if

  • Assessment shows follicles in the area that are still viable
  • You would prefer a preparation made from your own blood
  • You are willing to begin with the foundation rather than the injection
  • You want progress compared against a baseline every 2 months

It is not the answer if

  • Your hair and scalp have not been examined under the microscope yet
  • You are looking for one universal answer to every type of hair loss
  • You expect it to replace follicles that are no longer there
  • You want to buy scalp injections as a product

The evidence

What a foundation first
programme actually
looks like.

Microscopic images are taken on the first visit. Progress is then formally reviewed every 2 months, so what changed is compared against a record rather than against recollection. Drag any slider to compare.

Photographs are of our own patients and published with their consent. Hair restoration is gradual and results vary between individuals. Nothing here is a guarantee of outcome, and suitability is established at consultation first.

How it actually runs

Nothing starts
before the assessment.

01

Consultation

Complimentary, unhurried, and typically 45 to 60 minutes. We take the time to understand your concerns and your goals before anything is recommended.

02

Assessment

Your hair and scalp are examined under the microscope, on a screen you can see for yourself, and a baseline record is taken on day one.

03

Foundation

For most patients the work begins with the environment the hair grows in, not with a therapy layered on top of an untreated scalp.

Review

Progress is formally reviewed every 2 months against those baseline images. If your hair is not responding, we would rather know at two months than at twelve.

We are not a clinic that sells head injections. We are a clinic that assesses your hair first and then decides what, if anything, is worth doing.

I have been visiting the Hampton Clinic for ten years and there is absolutely nowhere else I would go for my treatments. Customers are always welcomed by a warm, polite and efficient team who are experts in their field. Treatments are carried out in an extremely respectful and personal manner.

I have been coming here for a very long time for laser hair growth treatment. I originally knew Tarek from a previous clinic, and I have continued to trust him. It never feels rushed or clinical in a cold way. There is always good conversation, genuine care, and a real personal touch, which makes a big difference.

I am impressed, and learnt a lot at my hair loss consultation today at The Hampton Clinic Bristol. They explained everything, what is the cause of my thinning hair, and advised what I should use and take.

Always welcoming, staff very friendly and positive. I have been on numerous occasions and have always been treated respectfully. They keep you updated about your sessions by email and text, and you always get an aftercare email too.

Questions

Before
you book.

Is PRP made from my own blood?

Yes. PRP is prepared from a sample of your own blood, which is processed to separate plasma containing a higher concentration of platelets and naturally occurring growth factors.

Is PRP suitable for every type of hair loss?

No. We do not view PRP as a universal standalone solution for every type of hair loss. Its use is determined by individual assessment and suitability, and if it is not the right thing for your hair we will tell you.

What is the difference between PRP and PRF?

Both are platelet based preparations made from your own blood. PRF is a newer generation preparation made without anticoagulants, which forms a natural fibrin matrix holding platelets and other naturally occurring components involved in tissue repair and cellular signalling.

Can I book PRP directly without a consultation?

No. Every hair restoration journey at The Hampton Clinic begins with a hair and scalp consultation and assessment, because whether PRP is appropriate for you is exactly what that assessment establishes.

Next step

See whether PRP is
appropriate for you
before you buy it.

PRP is not sold here as a standalone treatment, and whether it belongs in your programme is decided by your hair and scalp assessment. The consultation takes 45 to 60 minutes and is complimentary.
